Brain Quest is one of the best Christmas presents my children received this year.  It's become like currency around here.  They'll do pretty much anything in exchange for a couple pages of Brain Quest questions.  I know there are plenty of educational gimmicks out there, and I'm not big into electronic learning.  I usually promote three things: prolific reading, play, and parent time.  Those three things alone can be all you need to succeed.  That's why Brain Quest is so great.  It's not interactive electronics.  It's interactive reading.  A parent has to sit down with their child, read the questions, and check the answers.  Every question opens up an opportunity for you to discuss the topic with your child, more in depth.  The cards are slim, and easy to put in a purse or bag.  They fan out from the corner, so you will never get them out of order, like regular flashcards.  The questions cover a variety of topics, and the illustrations are pleasant.  I think, as a parent who wants to be involved in my child's learning, these cards are a great deal.  And you don't have to buy batteries.
